Wolf Minerals Begins Producing Tungsten From Hemerdon Project

Tue, 01st Sep 2015 07:04

LONDON (Alliance News) - Wolf Minerals Ltd Tuesday said it has produced its first tungsten concentrate from the Drakelands mine in the UK but said it has faced delays in taking over the processing plant at the project which will now happen by the end of September.

The company has begun producing tungsten concentrate from the third largest tungsten and tin resource in the world through the Drakelands mine, which is part of the Hemerdon project in Devon.

The Drakelands mine is also the first new metal mine in the UK for 45 years.

"We are very pleased to announce that as part of the commissioning process we have now produced tungsten concentrates to the required specification. We look forward to shipping our first tungsten concentrates to Global Tungsten and Powders in the US and to Wolfram Bergbau und Hütten in Austria," said Managing Director Russell Clark.

Global Tungsten and Powders and Wolfram Bergbau und Hütten are Wolf's offtake partners.

The crushing and scrubbing section of the processing plant at the project have been commissioned and the refinery section of the plant is now in the final stages of commissioning, it said.

Wolf said it has faced a minor delay in taking official control of the plant from the contractor as two vibrating screens broke during the commissioning process. These have been replaced and the plant is back on track, but it has resulted in a delay in the plant being handed over to the company.

Wolf is now expecting to officially takeover the plant from the contractor before the end of September.
