Verizon launches 5G tech in over 30 cities

Mon, 23rd Dec 2019 12:36
(Sharecast News) - Verizon has launched its 5G technology in over 30 cities and 15 NFL stadiums in the US on Monday, reaching its goal before its deadline for an initial roll-out by the end of 2019.

The company launched 5G in cities including New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Boston and Phoenix.

Nevertheless, while it was ahead of other companies in terms of numbers and 5G certainly delivered fast speeds, actual coverage was spotty and Verizon's network was no exception.

In tests by the Verge of Verizon's 5G accessability in Chicago, for example, the network was only available at a handful of locations and was inconsistent even when it did appear.

Verizon had offered users a connectivity map so that they could know the exact points within each city where such connectivity was now available, but the connections were still a bit unstable.

The telecommunications carrier had announced another six cities were it was planning to roll-out 5G just last week, and on Monday it added three more: Hampton Roads in Virginia, and Columbus and Cleveland in Ohio (the John Glenn Columbus International Airport also now has access, the first US airport to do so).
