(Sharecast News) - Wall Street stocks were in the green early on Monday as market participants geared up for the release of August's consumer price index later in the week.
As of 1515 BST, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.84% at 32,422.00, while the S&P 500 gained 1.04% to 4,109.79 and the Nasdaq Composite came out the gate 1.09% stronger at 12,243.94.
The Dow opened 270.29 points higher on Monday, extending gains recorded in the previous session when major indices snapped a three-week losing streak.
Stocks traded higher at the open, with investors holding out for last month's CPI reading on Tuesday and the Federal Reserve's next policy meeting later in the month.
The central bank is widely expected to deliver its third straight 0.75% interest rate hike as part of an ongoing effort to fight high inflation, following a similar move by the European Central Bank last week.
Also drawing an amount of investor attention was news that the White House was planning to curb shipments of chipmaking tools and chips used for artificial intelligence to China, according to Reuters.
Energy prices were lower in the early hours, with West Texas Intermediate falling 0.29% to $86.54 a barrel and Brent crude dipping 0.17% to $92.68 a barrel, losing some of the gains registered last week after Vladimir Putin threatened to halt oil and gas exports to Europe.
No major data points or corporate earnings were slated for release on Monday.
