UK will cancel a planned rise in motor fuel tax, PM says

LONDON, May ​20 (Reuters) - ⁠Britain will ​cancel a planned rise in ​tax ‌on motor fuel, ⁠British Prime Minister ⁠Keir Starmer said ​on Wednesday, part of government efforts to ​ease cost-of-living ‌pressures driven in part by the Middle ​East conflict.

A 5 pence-per-litre cut ‌to fuel duty, which was ‌due to expire in September, will now be extended ​until the rest of ‌the year, he told parliament. He also ⁠said ⁠the government would ‌give hauliers a 12-month road ​tax ​holiday.
