UK GAS-Prices steady amid mild, windy weather

Thu, 12th Nov 2020 10:27

Nov 12 (Reuters) - British gas prices were steady on
Thursday morning, amid slow trade, and as strong wind output and
mild weather capped demand.

* Gas for day-ahead delivery was flat at 37.00
pence
per therm by 1023 GMT.

* The December contract edged down by 0.05
pence to
39.75 p/therm.

* Optimism about a coronavirus vaccine had lifted market
sentiment
on Wednesday, overshadowing the fact that temperatures were
expected to remain well above average for the coming week,
analysts at Energi Danmark said in a daily report.

* "We think the upturn will come to an end today and
sideways
trading appears likely," they added.

* Robust wind power in Britain also for the next couple of
days
was "destroying gas-for-power demand", said a trader, adding
that weaker prompt prices could put pressure on curve contracts
as well.

* "So I would say prices should stabilise now or go slightly
down," he added.

* The UK market was balanced, with demand at 201 million
cubic
metres (mcm) and supply at 200.5 mcm/day, National Grid data
showed.

* Peak wind power generation is forecast at 13.2 gigawatts
(GW) on
Thursday and 13.1 GW on Thursday, Elexon data showed.

* Refinitiv analysts forecast demand from power stations at
43
million cubic metres (mcm) for Friday, down 1 mcm from the
previous forecast.

* Total liquefied natural gas send-out was nominated at 24
mcm/d
on Thursday morning, down 6 mcm from Wednesday, they added.

* Gas for the day ahead at the Dutch TTF hub was
down
0.10 euros at 13.88 euros per megawatt hour.

* The December TTF gas price fell 0.13 euros to
14.00
euros per megawatt hour.

* The benchmark Dec-20 EU carbon contract fell
0.41
euros to 25.972 euros per tonne.
