UK GAS-Prices firm over lingering Russian supply concerns

Mon, 09th Aug 2021 10:01

Aug 9 (Reuters) - Prompt British wholesale gas prices firmed
on Monday morning as lower Russian gas flows to Europe via the
Yamal pipeline continue to affect market sentiment, though Dutch
prices eased on news the plant behind the supply woes has
restarted.

* The within-day contract on the British NBP hub
was
up 0.75 pence at 106.50 p/therm by 0847 GMT.

* The day-ahead contract was up 1.25 pence at
107.00
p/therm.

* The nervousness over reduced Yamal-Europe flows is likely
to
continue to dominate the market, Refinitiv said in a daily
research note.

* Gazprom on Sunday said it has restarted its Urengoy gas
condensate preparation facility after a fire that curbed flows
on the Yamal-Europe pipeline.

* Flows at the key entry point of Mallnow were still reduced
at
about 360 gigawatt hours per day on Monday morning and remained
a bullish factor, Refinitiv said.

* However, news that the supply of condensate to the Russian
plant
in Surgut, where the fire broke out, has been restored might
encourage bearish sentiment today, they added.

* The day-ahead contract also gained some support from a
rise in
gas-for-power demand by 5 million cubic metres (mcm) to 44
mcm/day, according to Refinitiv.

* Peak wind power generation is forecast at 7 gigawatts (GW)
on
Monday and 4.1 GW on Tuesday, out of total metered capacity of
around 20 GW, Elexon data showed.

* The UK gas system was oversupplied by 10 mcm, with supply
forecast at 141 mcm/day and demand at 131 mcm, National Grid
data showed.

* The September gas price at the Dutch TTF hub
was
down by 0.57 euros at 42.63 euros per megawatt hour after
initial gains.

* The benchmark Dec-21 EU carbon contract was down
0.24
euros at 56.42 euros a tonne.

* The benchmark Dec-21 British carbon contract had
yet
to trade. It closed at 48.25 pounds a tonne on Friday.
