UK GAS-Prices fall on oversupply, weak demand

Thu, 10th Sep 2020 08:26

LONDON, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Prompt British wholesale gas
prices fell on Thursday morning as Norwegian supply increased
and demand remained subdued.

* The within-day contract was down by 0.45
pence at
28.30 pence per them at 0722 GMT.

* The day-ahead contract was 0.50 pence lower at
28.25
p/therm.

* "Langeled flows are up and there isn't much demand in the
market," a gas trader said.

* The gas system was over-supplied by 8 million cubic metres
(mcm), with demand forecast at 184 mcm and flows at 192 mcm/day,
National Grid data shows.

* Flows through Langeled pipeline from Norway were 6 mcm
higher
than the previous day at 37 mcm/day.

* Withdrawals from storage are expected today to balance the
market, Refinitiv gas analysts said.

* Capacity at Norway's Troll field will be reduced from
Sept. 11
for six days.

* "However, as current Troll production is most likely below
80
mcm/d, we would expect the impact on such planned restriction is
capped, also over this period gas might be rerouted from the
Continent to the UK if the UK balance gets tight," the analysts
added.

* Peak wind generation is forecast at 5.7 gigawatts (GW) on
Thursday, rising to 10 GW on Friday, which should dampen demand
for gas from power plants.

* Temperatures are also expected to climb after today, with
the
daily average temperature for the weekend seen at 15.4 degrees
C, up from 12.9C today, Refinitiv Eikon data shows.

* The October contract was 0.40 pence lower at
28.20
p/therm.

* The weekend gas price at the Dutch TTF hub was
down
by 0.23 euro at 10.52 euros per megawatt hour.

* The benchmark Dec-20 EU carbon contract rose by
0.62
euro to 27.82 euros a tonne.
