Spurs submit stadium plans

Tue, 27th Oct 2009 08:05
North London football club Tottenham Hotspur has submitted planning application for its long awaited redevelopment of its White Hart Lane stadium.Tottenham Hotspur plc said the application marks a 'major milestone in the delivery of the club's regeneration proposals,' and includes 'one further major improvement to the stadium design - the inclusion of a single tier stand.'The club's current stadium has a capacity of 36,000 whereas the club currently has 70,000 people registered on its club membership scheme and a season ticket waiting list of 23,000 people, despite the club charging some of the highest ticket prices in the English Premier League.Haringey Council will now start the statutory consultation process on the club's application.'This is a multi-million pound investment in the area which brings with it housing, retail, a hotel, a supermarket, expanded community services and jobs and an exceptional public square. We have designed what will be a vibrant area 365 days a year and not a stadium with dead space surrounding it,' claimed Daniel Levy, chairman of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.Local MP Lynne Featherstone said the decision by Tottenham Hotspur to remain in Haringey could 'only be good news for the borough.'The club has been rumoured to have considered moving its home ground out of the Haringey area because of poor transport links, with locations in Lea Valley, Cheshunt and Wembley mooted as possible alternatives.
