Stockbroker WH Ireland made pre-tax loss of £0.3m in the 12 months to November, much less than the £2.1m deficit reported the year before.Turnover fell 25% to £18.4m, but the new financial year has started well, in line with the firm's internal budget and much better than for the previous year. "Overall, I would say that the year ended with WH Ireland being in much better shape than it has been in recent years, but it is just the 'end of the beginning' rather than cause for congratulation," boss Paul Compton said.Norseman Gold lost A$803,000 in the six months to December compared with a $610,000 profit the year before as the firm focused on developing two new mines.But the company has now shifted from a development focus to production in the new year "with the emphasis on returning the operations to profitability in the June quarter, as production ramps to maximum mill capacity".It produced 23,391 ounces of gold last year, but predicts a "significant" increase from the extensive capital investment program carried out during the past 18 months.
