SDL revamps language technologies division

Wed, 06th Oct 2010 08:34
Alan Sloan, chief executive officer of information management firm SDL's Language Technologies unit is leaving the company, after losing out in the battle for the top job in a revamp of the division. SDL said that the Language Weaver language translation businesses it acquired in July will be merged with SDL Language Technologies to be run as one global business, with Mark Tapling, currently chief executive of Language Weaver, bossing the whole show."The integration of machine translation into the human translation process is crucial. We consider that within five years more than 50% of all translated content will use machine translation as part of the translation process," said chief executive Mark Lancaster, in a statement that expressed delight at Tapling's appointment but made no mention of Sloan."We are dedicated to investing in language management technology in order to provide the platform for companies to deliver global content fast and cost effectively for all content across their business," Lancaster said.
