Motive TV shares scream ahead after 'anywhere TV' demo

Mon, 12th Nov 2012 08:46

Technology firm Motive TV rocketed by a third in value after it demonstrated the ability to watch over-the-air HD television channels on an iPad without the need of cable, satellite, or Internet. The firm said its successful test in New York had used a six inch antenna plus its software to deliver all the free-to-air broadcasts in "extremely high quality".Motive hopes to begin rolling out the service out in early 2013 with partners Granite Television, enabling users of iPads, Android tablets, and other portable devices to watch and record television programs directly from broadcast in any location. Beginning in the second half of 2013, Tablet TV will roll out to all major markets and cities in the US, it said.David Woodman, Managing Director of the Americas for Motive, said the move meant consumers could watch television everywhere, using the in-place public and commercial broadcasting system."Tablet TV will work everywhere in the United States, picking up in-market ATSC broadcast channels, giving viewers their choice of major league sports, prime time network entertainment, and local and national news," he said."As personal television viewing on tablets is growing rapidly, Tablet Television has enormous potential."Shares were up 33.3% after an hour's trading on Monday.
