LONDON (Alliance News) - Accelerated materials innovation company Ilika PLC said Tuesday the pilot line for the production of prototype batteries has successfully completed its factory acceptance test as part of its deal with the University of Southampton to build a solid-state battery scale-up facility.
The company signed a deal with Southampton University in July 2013 to design, build and operate a solid-state battery scale-up facility.
Ilika has been working on the design of the equipment and the supervision of the factory acceptance test, which took place at a facility in Finland.
After the equipment was demonstrated and tested at the Finland plant, Southampton University has made an additional GBP750,000 investment in laboratory infrastructure in preparation for the installation and operation of the equipment, Ilika said.
The equipment is due to be shipped for installation and commissioning in Southamption in the fourth quarter of this year, with work to then start on preparing pre-production quantities of solid-state batteries in 2015 to evaluation by commercial partners, the company said.
Ilika shares were up 9.4% on Tuesday to 93.00 pence, making the company one of the best performers on the AIM All Share.
