Hochtief notes Thiess contract with BHP for New South Wales mine

(Alliance News) - Hochtief AG on Friday said that Thiess Pty Ltd has landed a six-year contract extension with BHP Group Ltd at the Mount Arthur South mine in New South Wales, Australia.

The Essen, Germany-based construction company owns a 50% stake in Thiess.

Brisbane-based Thiess will continue to provide mining services at the mine Mount Arthur South to support BHP's production requirements.

Thiess has worked supported BHP at Mount Arthur South since 2017, providing load and haul services, as well as additional mining services.

Thiess will also work with BHP towards the planned mine closure in 2030.

BHP is a Melbourne-based mining and metals company.

Group executive for Australia East at Thiess, Rae O'Brien said: "Thiess has played a key part in supporting the local economy and community of the Hunter Valley region, dating back 80 years, and we are proud to be given the opportunity to continue our presence in the region alongside BHP."

Shares in Hochtief were up 1.3% at EUR103.40 pence each in Frankfurt on Thursday midday, while BHP shares were trading 1.5% higher at 2,386.00 pence each in London.
