Haydale Graphene Launches New Material For Lightning Strike Protection

Tue, 22nd Oct 2019 11:46

(Alliance News) - Haydale Graphene Industries PLC said Tuesday it launched a range of graphene-enhanced pre-impregnated materials for lightning-strike protection.

Ammanford, Carmarthenshire-based Haydale Graphene shares were up 4.8% in London at 1.39 pence each on Tuesday.

The company said the pre-impregnated - also known as prepreg - material has improved electrical conductivity and "can be used for structural components as well as for enclosures for the electronic avionic systems."

Haydale Graphene said the materials developed have potential applications to unmanned aerial vehicles along with commercial aviation and space applications. It has been developed in collaboration with Airbus SE, BAE Systems PLC, GE Aviation - part of General Electric Co - and Element Materials Technology Warwick Ltd.

The company is now looking to manufacture a demonstrator component as a showcase for commercial purposes.

Keith Broadbent, chief executive officer at Haydale, said: "We are pleased to have developed this much sought-after product and look forward to working with the aerospace industry to see it launched commercially."
