GSK stops using travel agencies accused in Chinese probe

LONDON, July 15 (Reuters) - British drugmakerGlaxoSmithKline said on Monday it had stopped using alltravel agencies which have been accused by the Chinese police ofchanneling bribes to illegally boost sales and inflate the priceof its medicines in the country.

Chinese police had said earlier in the day that four seniorChinese executives from the firm had been detained as part ofthe probe.

"GSK shares the desire of the Chinese authorities to rootout corruption," it said in a statement. "These allegations areshameful and we regret this has occurred. We are taking a numberof immediate actions.

"We are reviewing all third party agency relationships. Wehave put an immediate stop on the use of travel agencies thathave been identified so far in this investigation and we areconducting a thorough review of all historic transactionsrelated to travel agency use."
