FTSE 100 movers: Randgold shines but Centrica, SSE hit by Deutsche note

Mon, 10th Dec 2018 07:59

(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was down 0.4% to 6,750.59 in afternoon trade on Monday even as the pound sank after Theresa May confirmed that this week's parliamentary vote on her Brexit deal will be postponed.Gold miner Randgold Resources shone as gold prices held firm, while London Stock Exchange was on the rise after RBC Capital Markets initiated coverage of the stock at 'outperform' late on Friday."We view positively the prospects for continued robust performance of LSEG's two key business divisions: LCH and Information Services (FTSE Russell)," it said.Centrica and SSE were under pressure on the back of a utilities note from Deutsche Bank. DB cut its price target on sell-rated Centrica to 115p from 135p saying it sees retail disruption continuing after the price cap.Meanwhile, the bank cut SSE to 'hold' from 'buy' and reduced the price target to 1,180p from 1,250p, given risks around UK politics and remaining retail exposure.Housebuilders were also under the cosh, hit by news that this week's parliamentary vote on Brexit has been postponed and a note from broker Peel Hunt, which cut its stance on several names in the sector due to Brexit uncertainty.Barratt Developments was weaker as Peel Hunt downgraded it to 'add' from 'buy' and Persimmon was lower as Peel slashed its price target on the hold-rated stock by 27% to 2,025p.The brokerage said that the short-term outlook for the sector remains volatile, mainly due to the economic uncertainty caused by the Brexit process, which has caused some consumers to defer house buying until there is more clarity on the outcome."While the fluid political backdrop could lead us to change our assumptions again shortly, for now our central case on growth has shifted lower and has led us to cut forecasts and target prices," it said.FTSE 100 - RisersRandgold Resources Ltd.
