FTSE 100 movers: Miners stimulated by US hopes

Xstrata, Vedanta Resources, Anglo American and Rio Tinto are higher on hopes of a fiscal stimulus in the US. Oil services group Petrofac is upgraded to 'overweight' from 'equal-weight' by broker Morgan Stanley, which thinks business opportunities in Britain, Iraq and Algeria will boost the company's order book.Standard Chartered, the emerging markets focused bank, takes a tumble after announcing its £3.26bn cash call. The company intends to issue shares at 1,280p each on the basis of one new share for every eight held. The board believes that the new Basel III banking arrangements will see regulators raise requirements relating to minimum capital ratio levels and they may accelerate the transition timetable.There are concerns that Barclays may follow suit and raise cash. Burberry fell back even though underlying sales matched forecasts for the first half. The luxury clothing group said it is predicting full-year adjusted profit will be in the top half of the range of estimates. Medical firm Smith & Nephew is lower after US-based replacement joints rival Biomet reported disappointing figures. On top of that, the shares have gone ex the 3.95p a share interim dividend. Tesco has also gone ex-divided although its share price has fallen a lot less than the 4.37p a share interim payout.
