FTSE 100 Movers: France and Germany's new tax sees index drop

The FTSE 100 dropped 0.9% on opening, with Icap, a broker for financial institutions, leading the journey south after a proposal by French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel to introduce a new tax on financial transactionS. RBS and Barclay's share prices were also suffering on the back of Merkel and Sarkozy refusing to back euro-zone bonds. Eurasian Natural Resources was sitting pretty after it reported a 29% surge in net profit for the first half of 2011. Other mining groups were also performing well, with Fresnillo, Kazakhmys and Rangold Resources to the fore as a result of the recent rise in precious metal prices.
