LONDON (Alliance News) - Forbidden Technologies PLC Wednesday said it has made a new video codec, Blackbird 8, which allows for efficient compression and decompression of video.
Forbidden, which developed cloud video platform Forscene, said that the faster compression of Blackbird 8 is advantageous for users of mobile devices, with the upgrade in some cases halving the processing power required for playback and thus extending battery life. It also gives a reduction in datarate of up to 60% on handheld mobile shot video, improving the user experience on limited mobile internet connections.
"The creation and application of Blackbird 8 demonstrates Forbidden's commitment to the technology underlying its cloud video platform," Chief Executive Stephen Streater said in a statement.
Shares in Forbidden were untraded Wednesday morning, last quoted at 9.52 pence.
