Emerald sorts out water problem at Syrian well

Oil production from Emerald Energy’s Khurbet East field in Syria has topped 4.5m barrels, The oil exploration firm said current daily gross oil production is about 16,400 barrels per day.Attempts to recover oil from Khurbet East No.7 well proved fruitless. The company regarded this as a long shot after analysis of wire-line logging information and the well has been completed for future water disposal, ‘a function that was envisaged for this well at the time it was drilled,’ the company said.Production at Khurbet East No. 2 has recommenced after the company sorted out a water production problem. Output is now at a much higher rate of around 1.7m barrels per day, with minimal water production.Work has started on the Yousefieh No.3 appraisal well. The process is expected to take 45 days to complete.
