Dart Group Profit Up, "Disappointed" By Brexit But Confident On Future

LONDON (Alliance News) - Travel and distribution company Dart Group PLC on Thursday reported growth in profit in its last financial year and said it is confident customers will still use its services despite being disappointed about the EU referendum result.

Dart Group said its pretax profit in the year ended March 31 more than doubled to GBP104.2 million from GBP40.2 million the year before, as revenue rose to GBP1.4 billion from GBP1.3 billion, boosted by strong trading in the Leisure Travel business and an improved performance in Distribution & Logistics.

Within Leisure Travel, revenue grew by 15% to GBP1.3 billion from GBP1.1 billion, reflecting increased yields from flight-only and package holiday products, and a 22% increase in package holiday customers.

Revenue in Distribution & Logistics fell to GBP144 million from GBP151.7 million as lower fuel costs were passed on to customers, but pretax profit rose to GBP5.4 million from GBP3.3 million.

"The current financial year has started well in both our Leisure Travel and Distribution businesses. Although we were disappointed at the result of the recently held referendum on whether the UK should remain in the EU, we are confident that our customers will need our specialist food distribution services and will be keen to travel from our rainy islands to the sun spots of the Mediterranean, the Canaries and to European leisure cities," Chairman Philip Meeson said in a statement.

Dart Group will pay a total dividend of 4 pence per share for the year, up from 3p the year before.

Shares in Dart Group were trading up 4.3% at 563.88p on Thursday morning.
