Central Asia Metals optimistic for future as mined ore volume flat

Thu, 11th Jan 2024 14:29

(Alliance News) - Central Asia Metals PLC said that it mined a negligible amount of fewer ore in 2023 than in 2022.

The copper, zinc and lead explorer operating in Kazakhstan and North Macedonia said it mined 805,621 tonnes of ore in 2023, down narrowly from 806,069 tonnes.

Looking ahead, the company targets 2024 copper production at Kounrad between 13,000 and 14,000 tonnes of cathode, compared to 13,816 tonnes in 2023.

Further, Central Asia Metals expects lower carbon emissions in 2024 due to the contribution of solar power from the new Kounrad facility.

Chief Executive Officer Nigel Robinson said: "We look forward to delivering another year of safe and reliable base metals production at our operations and looking for further opportunities to grow the business. We were delighted to have received confirmation in December 2023 that one of our new licence applications for our target generation exploration programme in Kazakhstan had been granted and we look forward to a full exploration season this year."

The company will release 2023 results on March 25.

Central Asia Metals shares were up 0.3% at 171.58 pence each on Thursday afternoon in London.
