BP Whiting refinery flaring due to commissioning -sources

HOUSTON, Dec 10 (Reuters) - Flaring on Tuesday at BP Plc's 405,000 barrel per day (bpd) Whiting, Indiana, refinerywas related to work commissioning units that are coming on-lineas the company wraps up a $4 billion revamp of the plant,sources familiar with operations at the refinery said.

The largest of the units being commissioned, which is in theprocess of shifting a new unit to regular production, is a102,000 bpd coking unit, according to the sources.

The coker completed start-up on Nov. 25 and is expected tobe in regular production by the end of the year. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Kenneth Barry)
