(Alliance News) - Aviva PLC on Wednesday said it has appointed the former chief executive officer of Legal & General Group PLC's general insurance arm as a non-executive director.

The London-based insurer said Cheryl Agius was formally hired on Tuesday. She was previously a non-executive director of Aviva Life Holdings UK Ltd, Aviva Life & Pensions Ltd, and Equity Release UK Ltd, all subsidiaries in the Aviva Group.

Between January 2020 and January 2021, Aviva said Agius was CEO of Saga PLC's general insurance business and an executive director of the wider Saga group.

Prior to this, Agius was CEO of Legal & General Group's general insurance business and held senior leadership roles in Legal & General's retirement division.

"We are delighted to welcome Cheryl, who brings extensive financial services experience and knowledge of the Aviva group to the board," said Chair George Culmer.

Shares in Aviva were up 0.2% to 495.10 pence each in London on Wednesday afternoon.
