Active Energy awarded Malaysian patent for CoalSwitch

Mon, 18th Jul 2022 12:57

(Alliance News) - Active Energy Group PLC on Monday said it has been awarded a Malaysian patent for its CoalSwitch product.

Active Energy is a London-based biomass-focused renewable energy business. CoalSwitch is a biomass fuel that can be either used with, or replace, coal entirely.

The patent will be valid until May 2038 and prevents others from producing or selling Active Energy's product, CoalSwitch, in Malaysia.

This grant combines with patents for CoalSwitch awarded in the US and Canada in 2020 and 2021 respectively. The company added that it continues to file further patent applications, citing markets in Europe and Asia.

Chief Executive Michael Rowan said: "We see Malaysia as one of our primary target markets for CoalSwitch".

Shares in Active Energy were up 2.4% at 4.3 pence in London on Monday afternoon.
