VR Education Signs New Museum Deal; Secures Place On Oculus Programme

Thu, 23rd May 2019 11:03

LONDON (Alliance News) - VR Education Holdings PLC said Thursday it had signed an agreement with a US aviation and aerospace museum to use its Apollo 11 virtual reality product, which also has been chosen for a new Oculus promotion programme being launched by Facebook Inc.

VR explained that on Wednesday it had signed a commercial deal with the US Space & Rocket Center in Alabama to provide the Apollo 11 VR experience as a "major" new attraction to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of the first moon landing.

The US Space & Rocket Center is one of the top aerospace museums in the US and the top paid tourist attraction in Alabama.

The new attraction will open on June 10 and will allow visitors to experience the moon landing through a shortened version of the virtual reality Apollo 11 flight.

Visitors will be able to buy tickets for the experience for between USD10 and USD15 each. VR Education will benefit from this through a revenue-sharing agreement.

"We are delighted to be working with the US Space & Rocket Center where this year they are expecting over one million visitors to walk through their doors," VR Education Chief Executive Officer David Whelan said.

"The center has given us a prime location within the museum where visitors can participate in the Apollo 11 VR experience," Whelan added. "It is fantastic to be working with the US Space & Rocket Center, which has major plans for the promotion of this experience to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the moon landing."

In addition, Apollo 11 VR has been selected by social media giant Facebook as part of its Oculus Anywhere Programme. VR Education explained that the programme was "designed to deliver the best-in-class demo experience of Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift S, Oculus Rift and Oculus Go".

The Oculus is a range of virtual reality headsets made by a company acquired by Facebook in 2014.

The programme will see the Apollo 11 VR experience follow the programme around in its Oculus branded kiosks to a number of events including Sundance, PAX, F8 and GDC.

"It is also great to be working with Facebook to promote educational content via our Apollo 11 VR experience, which was updated to an HD version last year, to show users that VR is used for more than just entertainment," Whelan said.

Shares in VR Education were 4.0% higher at 9.62 pence on Thursday.
