LONDON (Alliance News) - John Malone, the owner of US media company Liberty Global PLC, has signalled that a deal between his cable company and mobile telecommunications giant Vodafone Group PLC looks unlikely, Bloomberg reported.
Liberty Global, the owner of Virgin Media and a series of European cable operators, has been in talks with Vodafone since June to find a way to combine its networks with Vodafone's in order to offer bundled broadband, mobile and television services.
But Malone told Bloomberg: "Conceptually there could be some real value created but realistically we haven?t been able to figure out a way to do that that's mutually successful." Comparing the talks with Vodafone to a "tennis match", Malone said there has not yet been any structure proposed for a deal that he would take to his shareholders.
He said this does not mean there is no way a deal will be done, but equally does not imply anything will be agreed.
