ROME, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Italy's economy ministry does not
expect European Union authorities to impose a veto on a planned
single national broadband operator, a Treasury source in Rome
said on Thursday.
The government is encouraging former national monopolist
Telecom Italia to combine forces with smaller rival
Open Fiber to create a single high speed network in a bid to
avoid duplicating investment in digital infrastructure.
Critics of the project, including rival operator Vodafone
, have said the single network plan may breach EU
competition laws.
