(Alliance News) - Transense Technologies PLC on Wednesday said it secured a new development project with an unnamed tier one automotive electric propulsion systems business.
Shares in Transense Technologies were up 6.0% to 83.75 pence each in London on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bicester, Oxfordshire-based developer of specialist sensor systems for vehicles said it will work with the unnamed customer to investigate the application of the Transense surface acoustic wave sensor technology in the customer's electric motor drive or eDrive systems.
They will measure the output torque of the customer's electric motor and the ability for this to be used in the control of the eDrive system.
Transense Technology said the development work will be funded by the unnamed customer, adding the new development project builds on prior work to "understand the potential benefits of bringing motor output torque and rotor temperature into the control loop of automotive eDrive systems".
Electric motor and transmission development firm Drive System Design Ltd have been separately commissioned by Transense Technology to carry out a series of simulation studies to increase the company's understanding of this application.
If successful, Transense Technology said these projects could lead to SAW technology being built into series production eDrive systems, which it said would be a significant new application of its technology. It noted the initial scope of work under this development project is not financially material to the company.
Transense Technology Business Development Director Ryan Maughan adds: "This is the second customer-funded program applying SAW technology in electric motors that Transense has secured in the past 12 months.
"We are seeing a strong market pull for SAW technology in eDrive systems, with several other programs under discussion with major global [original equipment manufacturer] and tier one companies to deliver improved performance, functional safety and efficiency by using SAW torque and temperature sensing technology."
