FTSE 250 movers: Premier Farnell blown higher on Raspberry Pi

Wed, 09th Sep 2015 14:55

(ShareCast News) - The FTSE 250 index rose strongly along with larger benchmark indices, but lost ground as the session wore on.At the close, the mid-cap index was up 0.9% at 17,153.28.Premier Farnell was the highest riser on the second-line index on the day when one of the electronic products it distributes was grabbing headlines. Raspberry Pi, the low-cost, credit-card sized computer, has released its first official touch screen display, which is expected to make it easier to use and therefore more popular.House builder Crest Nicholson was boosted by a bullish note from Goldman Sachs, which upgraded the stock to its 'conviction buy' list. This was based on the belief that its current valuation does not fully reflect its "sector-leading growth prospects, and the attractive returns on capital" forecast.Virgin Money fell the furthest after investor Wilbur Ross sold a further 50m shares in the challenger bank, cutting his residual stake in Virgin Money from 23% to 12%.Despite the Peppa Pig-fueled outperformance of its television arm, Entertainment One disappointed investors with news that film distribution had suffered a weak first quarter, sending the shares flickering lower. Group revenues were down 2% on a pro forma and constant currency basis, as a decline in film releases saw the division's takings fall.Shares in street fashion retailer SuperGroup were lower on the day that its AGM was being held in what analyst Nick Bubb called "its traditional and posh venue, Cheltenham Ladies College", in the centre of leafy Cheltenham.
