FACTBOX-North America natural gas export plans

Fri, 03rd May 2013 18:39

May 3 (Reuters) - Cheniere Energy is the only company to have received full approval from U.S. federal energyregulators to export domestic supplies of natural gas and to construct a U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal. On Friday, Houston-based Cheniere said in a first-quarter earnings report that as of March 31 it had completed some 26percent of the construction of the first two trains of its Sabine Pass LNG export terminal in Louisiana. A "train" liquefiesnatural gas preparing it for export. In March, Centrica, which owns Britain's largest household energy supplier, British Gas, inked an agreement with Cheniere tobuy some 89 billion cubic feet of gas per year from the Sabine Pass facility to diversify its supplies. Domestic shale gas supplies have flattened U.S. gas prices and producers and terminal owners have lined up to build gasexport facilities to serve higher-priced European and Asian markets. In addition to the 12 projects proposed to U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), there are potentially anothersix U.S. projects that may go forward, and five potential and proposed sites in Canada. Potential sites are those which have been outlined by terminal developers and may have received a U.S. Department of Energypermit to export natural gas, but may not have begun the process with FERC to gain approval to site, construct and operate anLNG export terminal. Below is a table showing the proposed and potential LNG export plants according to FERC as of April 17. Capacity is inbillion cubic feet per day.
