FTSE 100 movers: Carnival continues to fall on poor Q3 results

Cruise operator Carnival was a heavy faller for the second day in a row after the company disappointed with its third-quarter results and guidance for the full year. Morgan Stanley downgraded its rating on the stock this morning from 'equalweight' to 'underweight' and cut its full-year earnings per share estimates by 28%. The bank said: "CCL's early F14 guidance implies a sluggish yield recovery and a step-up in costs, and we think consensus will drift to our level. A major restructuring and/or cash return look unlikely as supports to the stock."Supermarket group Tesco was hit by a downgrade by JPMorgan Cazenove from 'neutral' to 'underweight' after the bank said that the company will be the most affected by structural problems in the UK food retailing industry given the rising price/range competition from Aldi and Lidl.Energy stocks have also sunk, hit by Labour leader Ed Miliband's pledge to freeze gas and electricity bills from May 2015 to January 2017 if his party were to return to power in 2015. Following steep opposition to the proposal, Miliband said he would "take action" against any energy firm that refused to adhere to a price freeze. Insurance group RSA Insurance was a heavy faller today after going ex-dividend, meaning that from today investors won't have access to its latest payout. Centrica and Old Mutual also went ex-dividend today.Meanwhile, banking stocks were making decent gains, with RBS, Barclays and Lloyds among the best performers.Fresnillo was on the up after Citigroup raised its target price to 1,020p from 944p.
