Irish Continental Group PLC - Dublin-based ferry operator - Reports EUR279.7 million in revenue in the first 10 months of 2021, up 22% from a year ago. The EUR50.2 million increase in revenue was partly offset by a EUR17 million higher fuel bill due to increased sailings and higher prices. Ferry Division revenue was up 24% to EUR144.5 million, which Container & Terminal Division revenue rose 21% to EUR146.5 million.
The numbers of cars carried on routes such as Dublin-Cherbourg and newest route Dover-Calais were up 44% in January to October from pandemic-hit 2020 but were less than half of 2019's total in the same period. More recently, from late August to this past Saturday, car volumes were slightly ahead of the same time in 2019.
Agrees to buy passenger roll-on-roll-off ferry Ciudad de Mahon from Trasmed GLE to serve on the new Dover-Calais route from the first quarter of next year. The 589 passenger ferry was built in Spain in 2000. Doesn't provide the price paid, but says that, together with its other recent purchase, the Isle of Innisfree, the company has invested EUR35.5 million. Irish Continental will have three vessels on the Dover-Calais route, which it opened in June, with up to 30 sailings per day.
