LONDON (Alliance News) - ICAP PLC on Thursday said electronic markets average daily volumes at its EBS currency trading platform fell sharply in December, down 29% year on year and 1.0% against the prior month.
EBS volumes amounted to USD74.8 billion in December on a single count basis.
There were declines in other areas too. US Treasury volumes were down 4.0% year on year and 2.0% on the prior month, at USD142.5 billion in December, while US repo volumes were down 1.0% year on year and 3.0% on the prior month, at USD222.6 billion.
European Repo volumes stood out as the figures showed a 5.0% improvement year on year to EUR168.3 billion, although that was flat on November.
Shares in ICAP were down 1.1% at 487.20 pence on Thursday morning.
