(Alliance News) - Great Western Mining Corp PLC on Friday said it has secured the X-ray fluorescence soil results from ALS Geochemistry's laboratory in Reno, US state of Nevada.
In addition, the AIM-listed company said it received the inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy grab samples from Bureau Veritas Inspectorate's laboratory, also in Reno.
Great Western Mining said analysis of the soil samples has identified two strong trends of copper anomalism within an M8 prospect, located in Marietta District, Nevada, centred along the two fault corridors, previously recognised during the geological mapping exercise.
Grab samples were also taken during the mapping phase, with "encouraging" results, including copper in the vicinity of the northern fault corridor, along with anomalous molybdenum and zinc readings.
The Irish exploration company said it is encouraged by the results of both the initial soil sampling programme and the grab sampling programme.
Looking ahead, Great Western Mining said the next phase of exploration work at M8 will be an infill soil programme centred on and around the two fault blocks, which will better define the trends seen in the current broad spaced pattern.
Following this programme, an induced polarisation & resistivity survey will be conducted on top of and along strike of the main copper trends, the objective of which being to identify sulphide targets which may be blind to surface mapping and geochemical sampling techniques.
"The results of the soil and grab sample programme at M8 confirm Great Western Mining's initial assessment suggesting a potential buried copper porphyry," said Chief Executive David Fraser.
"The company will now quickly move forward with a more targeted soil programme and IP survey to identify targets for drilling," added Fraser.
Great Western Mining shares closed 1.9% higher on Friday in London at 0.47 pence each.
