LONDON (Alliance News) - A British investigator and his wife, who are linked to the ongoing GlaxoSmithKline PLC bribery investigations in China, will not appeal their sentence, Reuters reported Friday, citing a lawyer on the case.
Peter Humphrey and his American wife Yu Yingzeng, were sentenced to prison for illegally obtaining private records of Chinese citizens and selling the information.
The two were detained last year, shortly after they completed an investigation they undertook for Glaxo over a suspected smear campaign against its China Head Mark Reilly.
Glaxo has been weathering a separate investigation by Chinese authorities over allegations that it paid up to USD500 million to doctors and hospital executives over the past six years. A series of other smaller bribery claims have since surfaced, in Poland, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and most recently Syria.
Shares in Glaxo were trading up 0.8% at 1,406.42 pence Friday morning.
