Small caps round-up: Tribal, Trafficmaster, Hamworthy...

Thu, 16th Jul 2009 14:17

Public sector services consultant Tribal Group expects results for the full year to be in line with expectations. The group said it has taken further action to reduce operating costs and now expect to realise annualised cost savings of more than £6m."Whilst we continue to see more challenging conditions in certain of our UK markets, we remain well-positioned to support public sector reform and the change that will be required in a tighter fiscal environment," it added.Satnav group Trafficmaster expects that overall revenue and profit for the first half will be in line with expectations despite challenging market conditions.Finsbury Food slumped Thursday after the cake and bread maker said talks regarding a possible bid for the group have ended.AIM-listed Finsbury confirmed on 1 June that it had received a preliminary bid approach, but cautioned that "there is considerable doubt that an offer will be forthcoming from this party".Coal miner UK Coal expects a first half operating loss of about £38m before revaluation movements and non-trading exceptional items, up from £25m in 2008, and a pre-tax deficit of £82m versus £9.9m last time.Latest indications are that the deficits on the group's defined benefit pension funds liabilities will have risen to about £165m at end June 2009 from £75m at the end of December last year. Property manager Fletcher King paid a final dividend of 1p even though it slipped into a loss of £432,000 last year after taking an £888,000 impairment charge. Revenue in the year to April from continuing operations fell to £3.13m (2008: £4.53m). "2009/2010 will not be an easy year for us and the level of transactions is unlikely to be significantly higher than in the past year," it said.Marine engineer Hamworthy's order book stood at £222m at end June (£301m). "As expected, order intake for new product sales remained slow with a total order intake for the group of £29m for the first quarter to June 2009 (2008: £51m). Order intake for Aftersales continues at the steady levels seen through the last financial year. "Subject to the effects of currency rates on translation, the board remains confident of meeting expectations for the financial year ending 31 March," it added.Logistics software supplier Kewill has seen slow new licence sales during the first few months of the current financial year, although it anticipates total first half sales in line with the same period last year. Larger deals are progressing in both the US and Europe, which we would anticipate resulting in new and significant orders over the next six months and it continues to expect to see overall growth this financial year. Marine electronics group Raymarine's sales in the first half fell 24% and it is still looking for new equity to cover trading losses, working capital and one-off costs. For the six months ended June 30, sales were £63.5m. Direct margin fell significantly, hurt by exchange rates and promotional activity. Raymarine has reduced headcount by over 25%, and expected total overhead savings of £12m for this year, but these have been offset by £9.4m of adverse currency movements. "Although the company continues to negotiate with its banking syndicate, the Board believes that it is important for shareholders that the potential equity fundraising or a satisfactory sale of the business is achieved," it added.Cancer diagnostic group Genetix said underlying operating profit is expected to increase 24% to around £1.2m in the six months to June. Revenue for the period is expected to increase by 14% to approximately £14.1m. Frenkel Topping, which provides financial advice on investment and personal injury, posted interim pre-tax losses of £9.4m against the £71.2m from the same period last year. Spitfire Oil has increased reserves at its Salmon Gums lignite deposit in the south-east of Western Australia by 69% to 876m tonnes, comprising 406m tonnes indicated and 470m tonnes inferred. In addition, if the current oil yields achieved with the test reactors in the Curtin University laboratory can be maintained at an industrial scale, it would correspond to an in-situ pyrolysis oil resource in the range of 330m to 420m barrels, an increase in the range of 65% to 110% over the 200m barrels in-situ oil volumes which supported the company's admission onto AIM.

IN BRIEF: Fletcher King interim profit up mildly as outlook optimistic

Fletcher King PLC - London-based chartered surveyors firm - Pretax profit rises to GBP50,000 in the six months to October 31, from GBP32,000 a year prior. Revenue is flat at GBP1.3 million. Finance income grows to GBP37,000 from GBP2,000. Looking ahead, Chair David Fletcher says: "Capital markets are likely to remain subdued for a while yet, but with some good instructions in the pipeline and a focus on improving non-transactional revenues, there are grounds for optimism that this will translate into business growth and development in due course." He adds: "Yet again it continues to be impossible to accurately predict the future of the property market and the timing of its recovery. With a focus on improving non-transactional fee income, our activities are healthy and growing and we look forward to a reinvigorated capital market."
