(Alliance News) - Firestone Diamonds PLC said Friday it has resumed production at its Liqhobong diamond mine in Lesotho after diesel generators have been implemented to deal with power supply issues.
The diamond miner said production at the mine resumed on Saturday, and the processing plant is currently operating at between 80% and 90% of full capacity as the new power system is being optimised.
Firestone Diamonds said the generators are expected to be used to generate power until grid power is restored from the Muela hydropower station. According to the Lesotho Electricity Co, it is scheduled to take place on December 1.
The company expects its normal operating costs to increase due to renting of the power generators.
Firestone Diamonds had to hire diesel generators after power disruption was reported in early October. Muela hydropower station, which supplies electricity to the miner, started a two month maintenance programme, which caused unexpected voltage fluctuations leading to disruption in company's operations.
Firestone Diamonds shares were up 18.2% in London at 0.65 pence each on Friday.
