Funeral Services Firm Dignity Appoints Clive Whiley As Chair

Fri, 27th Sep 2019 08:31

(Alliance News) - Dignity PLC on Friday said it appointed Clive Whiley as chair and non-executive director with effect from Thursday.

Whiley, a City veteran, also serves chair of retailer Mothercare PLC. According Dignity, Whiley has over 35 years' experience in regulated strategic management positions.

"I am delighted that Clive will be joining the board of Dignity as chair. His significant commercial, business and board experience together with his personal qualities will be invaluable," said Interim Chair David Blackwood.

Blackwood, a senior independent director, took over the chair role on an interim basis after the departure of Peter Hindley in June.

"I greatly value the support already shown to me by key shareholders and I am looking forward to working with the executive team to ensure that we are fully prepared, armed with the learnings from the Competitions & Markets Authority review, to deliver a successful plan to improve performance on behalf of all of Dignity's stakeholders," said Whiley.

Dignity also said it is well advanced with the search for additional non-executive directors with a view to the board comprising a majority of independent non-executive directors.

Dignity shares were trading 2.7% higher early on Friday in London at 523.68 pence each.
