(Alliance News) - Bezant Resources PLC on Thursday said assay results from rock chip sampling at its Buffalo project in Zambia found high grade values of copper.

Shares in Bezant were down 8.9% at 0.082 pence in morning trade.

In a second round of composite rock chip sampling, in situ results from the 12 to 15 metre wide pit face ranged between 2.2% and 4.1% copper.

Sidewall mineralisation results, meanwhile, had copper grades of between 0.6% and 2.0%, which significantly extends the potential target zone width at Buffalo.

Assay results include BFR 2, which has 2.2% copper, 6.5 parts per million of silver, and 6.3% iron, with less than 0.01 parts per million of gold. BFR 5, meanwhile, ha 0.6% copper, 9.0 parts per million of silver, 1.4% iron, and 0.02 parts per million of gold.

The discovery of a new outcrop has also found a copper zone extension 350 metres to the southwest.

Bezant said the next step at Buffalo will be to conduct more "mapping and trenching work" in order to define possible targets for near-surface drilling.

Chief Executive Laurence Read said: "This latest round of rock chip sample results demonstrates the presence of principally one per cent or more copper located at surface. In addition to the recorded copper results the other information obtained from the assay results including the iron, silver and gold content adds valuable information informing the team as to how the mineralisation might be structured along strike and at depth. Adding this new data to the historic logs, we shall now seek to start generating initial drill targets, most probably near surface and along strike."
