HOUSTON, May 28 (Reuters) - June-delivery CARBOB gasolinedipped 0.25 cent to 3.75 cents a gallon over July NYMEX RBOBgasoline in the Los Angeles spot market as Exxon Mobil Corp was restarting a hydrotreater at its Los Angelesrefinery, traders said on Tuesday.
The 149,500 barrel per day (bpd) Exxon refinery in Torrance,California, began on May 2 a planned overhaul of several units,including the catalytic hydrotreater and the crude distillationunit.
An Exxon spokeswoman declined to discuss the status ofindividual units at the Torrance refinery on Tuesday.
Traders said the hydrotreater restart was seen as a signalthe refinery was near the end of the overhaul.
In the San Francisco Bay market, June CARBOB slid 1.25 centsa gallon to 7.25 cents a gallon over July NYMEX RBOB due to theExxon restart.
Gasoline in the Portland market was down 6 cents at 9 centsa gallon over July NYMEX RBOB on expectations demand forgasoline from Washington State refineries would be reduced dueto the Exxon restart.
June CARB diesel gained 2.5 cents to a discount of 1.5 cents a gallon under July NYMEX heating oil after BP Plc's 225,000bpd Cherry Point, Washington, refinery reported a diesel unitmalfunction on Saturday.
In the Bay market, June CARB diesel rose 2 cents to 5 centsa gallon under July NYMEX heating oil.
Diesel in the Portland, Oregon, market was down 2 cents at 5cents a gallon over July heating oil. Traders said disruptionsform the BP malfunction, if they continued, would likely be feltfirst farther away from Washington state.
Jet fuel in L.A. for June delivery gained 2 cents to 10cents a gallon under July NYMEX heating oil. (Reporting by Erwin Seba)
