Angling Direct FY revenues grow

(Sharecast News) - Fishing tackle and equipment retailer Angling Direct said on Wednesday that its overall trading performance for the year ended 31 January was expected to be in line with market expectations.

Kelso Group Holdings PLC - invests in undervalued London-listed companies - Buys 2.3 million shares of Angling Direct PLC at 35.1 pence per share, taking a 3.0% stake in the Norfolk, England-based fishing tackle retailer. Angling Direct has 46 stores and an estimated 12% of the UK market, Kelso notes, saying this could grow towards 20%. Kelso also argues that Angling Direct has surplus capital that could be returned to shareholders through share buybacks. The retailer has GBP17.6 million in net cash, Kelso notes, equal to about 60% of its equity market capitalisation.

Angling Direct PLC - Norfolk, England-based fishing tackle retailer - In the six months that ended July 31, pretax profit rises 52% to GBP1.7 million from GBP1.1 million a year earlier. Revenue rises 11% to GBP43.3 million from GBP38.9 million. Declares no interim dividend, unchanged from a year earlier. Says cumulative August and September sales were in line with expectations, up 14% from a year earlier, which it said was a softer comparative period, with the prolonged extreme temperatures in the prior year.

IN BRIEF: Angling Direct revenue up 11% in half-year, led by UK stores

Angling Direct PLC - Norfolk, England-based fishing tackle retailer - Revenue in the six months that ended July 31, the first half of the company's financial year, is GBP43.3 million, up 11% from GBP38.9 million a year before. UK revenue is up 10% to GBP40.9 million from GBP37.2 million, with retail store sales up 11% and online sales up 8.3%. European online sales were up 40% to GBP2.4 million from GBP1.7 million. Angling Direct says like-for-like store sales grew 4.9%. The figure excludes a store in Reading that suffered a fire in February. Angling Direct opens two new stores during the recent half year - one in Cardiff, Wales and one in Goole, Yorkshire - and now trades from 47 stores.
