Anglo African Oil & Gas Prepares To Increase TLP-101 Well Production

Thu, 03rd Jan 2019 09:12

LONDON (Alliance News) - Anglo African Oil & Gas on Thursday said one of its wells in the Tilapia Field is producing at a higher rate than before, following an upgraded and relocated flare.

In the Tilapia field, offshore the Democratic Republic of Congo, well TLP-101 was taken offline during the drilling of TLP-103, due to the proximity of the well's flare to the drilling apparatus.

A flare consists of a vertical tower and burners for burning combustible vapours, serving to stabilise pressures in the well, as well as liquid and gas flow.

Following the relocation and upgrading of the flare, TLP-101 was brought back into production at an average of 55 barrels of oil per day during a test period, up from 30 bopd before relocation.

In addition, Anglo African had commissioned a reservoir engineering company to conduct a review of wells TLP-101 and TLP-102, which revealed connectivity between the two wells.

Based on these findings, the engineering company has recommended that TLP-102 be used as a water injector to increase production from TLP-101 to up to 400 barrels of oil per day.

Anglo African is collecting estimates for the cost of the work and is assessing the commercial viability.

"TLP-101 being taken offline for a while provided a perfect opportunity to run tests that would not ordinarily have been possible. Following these tests, TLP-101 has been successfully brought back on line and at rates of production which are materially more than those at which that well has produced over recent years," said Executive Chairman David Sefton.

"However, the very interesting result of the testing, and the excellent work by the reservoir engineering company has been to come up with several interesting and innovative ideas which have the potential to make TLP-101 produce at levels that would generate significant income for the company," Sefton added.

Shares in Anglo African Oil & Gas were down 2.8% at 11.96 pence on Thursday.
