Sarantel Group PLC announced that it has received initial production orders for two separate M2M (machine-to-machine) asset tracking applications. The first application is for an M2M device selected by a US airline company to track all its cargo shipments in real time to provide customers with real time information on all high value shipments. The second application is for an M2M device selected by a US manufacturer of premium commercial vehicles to be embedded in its vehicles, enabling the vehicle owners to track the location of the vehicles and thereby enhancing efficiency. Sarantel was on 6th July notified that New Hill Growth Fund 1, LP, as at today's date, was interested in 33,640,646 A ordinary shares of 0.1 p each representing 4.05 per cent. of the Company's issued ordinary share capital.

[SLG] Miniature antenna maker Sarantel (LON:SLG) will make its breakthrough in consumer electronics next year when it launches its next generation antenna, according to broker Xcap. In the fourth quarter of this year, the company will begin production of a new generation of antennas when a GPS receiver chip will be integrated into the antennas to make a full module. Xcap analyst Tim Freeborn, who has a ‘buy’ rating and 1.6 pence target price, says this new module has many advantages over traditional patch antennas used in cameras and satnavs. The next generation antenna will be smaller than patch antennas with a diameter of 6.3mm, down from the current size of 7.5mm. This represents a 42 per cent volume reduction and is far smaller than the 8.5mm depth of the Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S3 antennas. As well as being smaller, the new antennas will sell for US$7-8 each, a significant price jump from the current antenna price of US$3. Modules can also be machine installed, while patch antennas need to be connected by hand and require an expensive connector to overcome poor signal insulation, Freeborn added. Although a simple patch antenna only costs 50 cents, the price rises to US$1 with the connector. Add fitting on top of that and the full costs of the modules will not be far off. Some versions will be able to receive Wi-Fi as well as GPS. The Xcap analyst notes Korean tech giant Samsung’s acquisition of chipmaker CSR (LON:CSR) as a significant marker of the potential of wireless tech firms. “Samsung’s purchase of CSR’s mobile product range – on generous terms – shows how embedded technology and patents have a strategic value quite divorced from current revenues. What’s true of CSR is far more true of Sarantel,” said Freeborn. He also thinks the imminent arrival of 4G and longer-range Wi-Fi suggests Sarantel’s technology will “loom larger” on product roadmaps. Freeborn thinks this has yet to happen because previous antennas were too large and too expensive to foster interest. Sarantel shares slipped 7.7 per cent to 0.3 pence.

[SLG] The two new antennas, the SL1250 and SL1350, are seen by analysts as route for Sarantel potentially to crack the consumer electronics market. Its antennas are ceramics based, which makes them accurate to a range of a metre. It is this accuracy and potential to embed antennas into smartphones for use in instant consumer marketing – as people walk past shops and restaurants for example - that could open up a huge market for the company. Sarantel said its new GeoHelix antennas deliver a level of positional accuracy and reliability that is essential for a rapidly growing number of location sensitive applications. Both antennas use improved Sarantel technology, enhancing the performance and mechanical properties while are much smaller than the previous models. [SLG] its SL1204 active GPS antenna has been selected by Leica Camera AG for the Multifunctional Handgrip M accessory to support Leica's M-System digital camera range. The Multifunctional Handgrip M adds GPS capability to the M-System range of cameras and allows photographers to save exposure location information in the Exchangeable Image File Format (EXIF) data, which is used for geotagging images and to sort and display images according to location. Integrating accurate GPS functionality for digital cameras can be a real technical challenge for camera manufacturers. Leica has used the Sarantel SL1204 antenna within its Multifunctional Handgrip M to overcome this, providing a reliable GPS solution in even the most challenging environments.

[SLG] Has been chosen to supply legendary German camera group Leica with miniature antennas to enable photographers to accurately tag the location of images. The SL1204 active GPS antenna will go into a handgrip accessory for Leica's M-System digital camera range to add GPS capability and allow photographers to save exposure location information in the Exchangeable Image File Format (EXIF) data. EXIF is used for geotagging images and to sort and display images according to location. Jesko von Oeynhausen, product manager of M-System at Leica, said that Sarantel’s antenna had enabled it to integrate robust and reliable GPS functionality, ensuring geotagging data is consistently available to photographers. David Wither, Sarantel’s chief executive, added it was a first design win for the company in a very important developing market for GPS. He said digital camera makers around the world are facing challenges in providing consumers with reliable GPS performance for geotagging applications and he was pleased Leica had selected Sarantel’s technology. Broker Xcap said that while the deal was relatively small, it was "very encouraging" and a massive quality endorsement. Tim Freeborn, at Xcap, said he was leaving its forecasts unchanged as the initial order is for 3,000 pieces at $10 each, though this only covers the first quarter’s volume, but added it moves the story "decisively in the right direction". “In the medium term we suspect the company’s real edge will come from deploying its superior technology in 4G phone systems. “For instance the patchwork of frequencies which make up 4G around the world means devices will need several different antennas. Sarantel’s antennas can operate close to each other without interference. The current MV [market value] of £2.5m is utterly ludicrous for a company whose debt is guranteed by its US defence customers."

[SLG] The market place for [SLG] is still in a state of flux as far as US defence work goes. If the antennae can prove their worth then there is no stopping the demand, however [SLG] is still at the mercy of General Dynamics winning those lucrative US defence contracts, but other manufacturers could also see the benefits of [SLG]'s offerings as the "best" allegedly the market can offer, we shall see. http://www.nationaldefensemagazine.org/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=942

[SLG] Announces a trading update for the year ended 30 September 2012. The Group reported a 62% increase in unit sales and an increase in revenues of 160% in the second half of the financial year compared to the first half. Total revenues for the year ended 30 September 2012 are expected to be 35% higher than the previous financial year at £3.0 million. The revenue growth is primarily due to a number of military programs now moving into production. In particular, the Group recently secured a £200,000 follow-up production order for its rugged GeoHelix GPS antenna, which is used in the US military's Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) program. As announced in July 2011, the US Army has indicated a requirement to purchase more than 190,000 JTRS radios over a five year period. Sarantel continues to make progress with its sales and distribution network, and the Group has sold or sampled its antennas to more than 260 new customers during the year. These new GPS customers and demand from existing customers have combined to increase GPS revenues and unit volumes during the financial year. Sarantel has recently launched two new GeoHelix GPS antennas that enhance performance and mechanical properties, providing an easy-to-integrate, cost effective, GPS antenna solution. These products directly address a number of historical shortcomings and from initial feedback have been well received by the market. As of 30 September 2012, the Group had cash balances of £0.1 million. This position is supported by the £2.0m HSBC Loan Facility announced on 1 March 2012, of which £1.2m had been drawn-down in the period.

[SLG]In the Company's audited results for the year ended 30 September 2012, as announced on 14 January 2013, Sarantel advised shareholders that the Company was in exclusive discussions with a third party for the sale of its operating subsidiary, Sarantel Limited. The Company further advised that in the event that the proposed disposal of the operating subsidiary did not proceed as expected, the Company would need to raise additional funds from third parties before the end of March 2013. As announced on 5 February 2013, due to the acceleration of a follow-on order subsequently received from a major customer, the deadline to raise additional funds from third parties extended by a month to the end of April 2013.Since the AGM on 15 March 2013, the Company has had discussions with certain of its existing institutional and other shareholders who have indicated their strong interest in continuing to support the Company. The Company has therefore today conditionally placed 276,825,440 new Ordinary Shares at a placing price of 0.1p per Ordinary Share with existing institutional and other shareholders to raise £276,825 before expenses. The proceeds of the Placing will be used to provide additional working capital and the Company expects that the deadline to raise additional funds from third parties will now be extended to beyond the end of May 2013. The new Ordinary Shares are the maximum number of Ordinary Shares that the Company is permitted to issue in a placing for cash pursuant to its share authorities approved by Shareholders at the Annual General Meeting held on 15 March 2013. As set out in the Company's audited results for the year ended 30 September 2012, the Directors believe that it will take a number of years before Sarantel is able to generate sufficient revenues to reach cash break-even from the military market alone. Whilst the Board believes there are attractive prospects in the consumer market for Sarantel's technology, the Group's weak balance sheet and limited financial resources have limited the Group's ability to exploit these opportunities in the past. In order therefore to enable the Company to invest in the growth of its consumer market sales and provide it with the working capital required, and based on indications of support from existing institutional and other shareholders, the Company intends to raise up to a further £4.75 million by way of a further equity issue at the Placing Price as soon as practicable following the Placing (the "Second Placing"). The Company will need to seek shareholder approval to permit the Second Placing to proceed. The Directors also intend to take the opportunity to provide smaller shareholders with the opportunity to participate by way of an open offer at that time. The Directors believe that the Placing, and the further support indicated by shareholders for the Second Placing, is in the best interest of shareholders and the Company and the Directors do not therefore currently intend to progress the discussions with the Buyer in respect of the proposed disposal of the operating subsidiary on the basis of the current proposed terms. The new Ordinary Shares will rank pari passu with the existing Ordinary Shares. Application will be made for the new Ordinary Shares to be admitted to trading on AIM and admission is expected to take place on or around 3 April 2013. Legal & General, which is currently interested in 19.8 per cent. of the issued Ordinary Share capital of the Company, is subscribing for 54,824,786 Ordinary Shares in the Placing (representing approximately 6.6 per cent. of the issued Ordinary Share capital of the Company). Accordingly, the subscription by Legal & General pursuant to the Placing is a related party transaction for the purposes of Rule 13 of the AIM Rules. The Directors, having consulted with the Company's nominated adviser, consider that the subscription by Legal & General pursuant to the Placing is fair and reasonable insofar as the Shareholders are concerned. Following the issue, the Company's issued share capital consists of 1,107,301,771 Ordinary Shares, with voting rights. This figure may be used by shareholders in the Company as the denominator for the calculation by which they will determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a change to their interest in, the share capital of the Company under the Financial Service Authority's Disclosure and Transparency Rules
