Well, yesterday afternoon I enjoyed myself by going to the cinema to watch Saw 3D. Now, I am a fan of the Saw movies and to watch it in 3D was phenomenal. 3D technology has been around a long time, but seems to be ‘having its day’ at the moment. Lots of 3D movies are now in mainstream cinema, along with 3D televisions that you can have in the home, and the gaming industry is also venturing there. It made me think about technology and investing. I don’t really have any shares in this sector. I do hold Mobilewave Group PLC (TIDM code: MBW) who are at the forefront of mobile applications, or rather mobile relationship management through Planet Oi. Although this technology has been around for a while, we are experiencing an explosion in the amount of people using smart-phones and, ultimately, these types of apps. For this reason, I am hoping that as long as Mobilewave get lucrative contracts and get their marketing spot-on, then it may be a good growth share. So, is anyone else out there invested in technology, hoping that they have picked a VHS over a Betamax, the Blu-Ray player over the HD player, or hoping that they haven’t invested in the next Dreamcast? You see, that is the thing with technology...you have to get it right. For many, it is ‘sink or swim’. Get it correct and the rewards no doubt will be fantastic, but get it wrong and you may just lose out entirely.
