easyJet (TIDM code: EZJ)

Thursday, 10th December 2009 22:33 - by Boredmum

Having a read over the weekend newspapers, I was interested to read an article on easyJet. It stated that easyJet had bucked the trend of the economic downturn; posting a 12.2% increase year-on-year for the number of passengers travelling in November. Shares in easyJet were up slightly; by 9.8p to 390p. I’ve always had a dislike for easyJet. For anyone who has ever watched the TV programme Airline, I am sure you will understand why. I totally believe the programme to be commercial suicide for Stelios and used to always ask the question “Why?” I mean, who in their right minds would put out a programme about their company that shows staff in such an unfavourable light? Scenes along the lines of ‘I could have helped him but I didn’t’. Cringe. Stelios, why do allow that to be aired? I have always thought “I shall never choose to use easyJet”. So here is the point. I quite fancy a little trip to Euro Disney and was checking out some prices on the internet. I got the hotel sorted and then started looking at flights. I could hear someone in the house state “I’m not going with easyJet; make sure it’s British Airways or someone like that”. Well, BA, who we have flown with many times before and have always received good service from, wanted more than £900 for our flights. A little disheartened, I tried another airline to find that they were charging over £700. At least we were going in the right direction, and then I figured ‘no harm to check easyJet’...who were slightly under £300. A tricky situation. Is good service everything when you have such a huge price difference? I guess sometimes it is not about personal choice, but cost. When you have an airline that can make such a substantial difference, maybe it is wise to give it a try. I guess that may be the reason for them bucking the trend during this economic downturn.
