The hosts of this year’s United Nations climate conference want the world’s governments to support a collective target to electrify 35 percent of global energy use by 2035.

Turkey, which will host the COP31 summit in the resort city of Antalya in November, said Tuesday the electrification goal would be a flagship priority of the conference, linking the push to soaring fossil fuel costs caused by the ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

“By electrifying daily life, from transport to buildings and industry, we can protect families and businesses from volatile energy markets,” Murat Kurum, Turkey’s environment minister and COP31 president, said in a statement.

Electrification has increasingly emerged as a major pillar of global decarbonisation strategies as countries seek to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while expanding renewable energy capacity, battery storage and grid infrastructure.

The U.S. has added some of the world’s largest solar ​and battery manufacturers to a list ‌of companies it believes are aiding China’s military.

On Monday Washington included EVE Energy and CALB ​Group, two of the largest battery ​makers for energy storage and electric vehicles.

Under ​U.S. ⁠law the Defense Department will be prohibited from contracting directly with companies on the ⁠list ​and restricted from buying ​their products or services through third parties from 2027.

Ziroth (a battery expert who posts on youtube) posted a video yesterday which deep dives into Donut's SSB claims. Electrek have picked up on the video and posted a story on it..... Take a look, it doesn't look like we will see a Donut battery very soon or at all. As a contrast, Ilika appears slow to market, but at least they have products which are independently verified and currently being evaluated by many potential customers.

I can’t find that article but earlier this month the govt announced £50m of funding for drones including a licensing system similar to having a number plate. The govt is laying the foundations for a massive scale up of UAVs.

This is where Ilika comes in as when you have thousands of drones flying around, some are gonna crash. Hence not only does high energy density matter but more importantly fire and thermal runaway risk must be minimised. Hence one of the main reasons why UK defence agencies have been testing Ilika’s Goliath solid‑state cells under live‑fire conditions, validating their safety and robustness.
