Trading update - received well so a nice rise yesterday, forgive me for stating the obvious. The market obviously likes the revenue increase, good UK & Africa results etc. Once the dust settles the market won’t like that overseas revenue continues to decline, particularly Italy & Germany so expect a re-trace in the immediate future.
Free cash flow before yesterday covered the dividend so this is now more secure & at about 10.5% yield as we stand today it is a good share for divi collectors. I’ve said for some time that VOD just needs to be thought of as a utility paying share, even more so now I humbly suggest.
I shall be buying back soon (sold £20k last year at av £1.36) as at my time of life I’m a divi collector. Good luck to all old & new holders.
Correction, actual FCF does not cover the div, from their own figures.
Real FCF was €1.4bn in 23, and the div was €2.4bn.
The figure they quote is adjusted FCF, where things like spectrum payment are added back in, but they still have to pay them. Look away look away.
The shortfall is currently being funded by selling off assets. There is no growth in the assets base, or even FCF here, hence the apparent low sp, which is actually a bit high. Unless they can prove a strategy for growth in future cash flows.
Sticking prices up is not it.
Mole - Vodafone Group annual free cash flow for 2023 was $12.395B (Dollars)
Mole
FCF = net operating profit - capital expenditure; per definition, no, dividends and other financing activities won't be covered in this metric.
FCF can be misleading as amortisation and depreciation is baked into net operating profit. Best to review the cash flow statement and to monitor debt levels as a result of financing acitivites segment in this statement.
Total movement of cash include any dividends paid and received.
Gary. "Just filter the one's that annoy you" Gary, If I filtered you, I would have missed your good posts today!?. I thought though you were going to wait for the 60's to buyback? Change of mind perhaps?
Danielh - By not filtering me does that mean I don't annoy you, never my intention.
Yes, I did have a buy order running for a week or so a while back at 68.1p if I recall, it almost got there when it briefly hit 69.7.
I know we are only talking pennies here & it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things but in my humble VOD is heading in the right direction to a certain extent so I'm happy to pay a little more (haven't brought yet though)
I especially like that debt is being reduced albeit funded by sales, at least there seems to be a realisation that this topic is one the markets have high on their "don't like list". The focusing on the business division is also encouraging news.
All the wages being saved over the next three years & the increases in charges will have an effect in the near future so these are a buy for me.
Well at least it didn't drop by 4% as jax and gutter predicted
I don't need to filter anyone here as nobody ever wants to talk to me anyway :-( just hope Gary doesn't jinx this share by buying back in
'Mole - Vodafone Group annual free cash flow for 2023 was $12.395B (Dollars)'
Gary, I think you are looking at some American site that is compunding the shares for the ADR's. Divide that figure by 10 perhaps.
Page 3 of the company report,
Free cash flow was an inflow of €1.4 billion (FY22: inflow of €3.3 billion) partly reflecting a lower adjusted EBITDAaL,
higher licence and spectrum payments and tax phasing. Adjusted free cash flow was €4.8 billion (FY22: €5.4 billion).
Robleo - You is good talking Desperate Dan down when he is raging, I was wondering if you works with people in government mental asylums?
Although you is probably independent wealthy so don't need to work.
Dan works with shopping 🛒 trolleys I believe.
Gutter, i think your enjoying winding these guys up, i would be to scared to talk to Dan after you've put him in a bad mood
I'm not brave enough for that lol
As long as the share price keeps on rising here it won't bother me what anyone says, let's hope it continues climbing and we will all be happy here
Mole, you realise amortisation and depreciation for the period was almost 14bn? This figure is subtracted from operating profit used for FCF.
Gary. It was a joke! Have a good week mate.
There are different ways to get to the figure. VOD are taking EDITDAal which has depreciation and ammortisation added back in (or not deducted), and then adding/deducting further movements from there to get the FCF.
