Hello GC Newt. Your post disappeared now. May be my kit. Yes, turned out alight after I thought we were in for another off day. You just cannot tell.
Hey raleigh. You seem to be holding the fort well today. Hope you are doing well and thanks for the updates. Nice to see another assault on 33p!
I put it on but it has not appeared. That last refers to contractors, who appear to be stockpiling if they can. "Purchasing activity increased for the eighth consecutive month in January" So if it needs saying, still going up for builders merchants.
Stockpiling by builders ( if they can) continuing I should think."Purchasing activity increased for the eighth consecutive month in January......."

One or two understandable concerns. Sector still doing well though.
Out of interest

This forms part of major development/building works ongoing and intended for the area, which I think may account at least in part for the reopening of the Cambuslang branch.
Ha ha :-)

Always good to see a bloke with a hard hat on staring at his mate through a telescope!
What are those things for?
Novel scheme. I am sure the new Sig management are looking at ways to leverage their market.

The sense of this is already recognised by govt., but construction are right to keep pushing themselves to the top of the economic agenda.

Will the chancellor see construction as a special case in next month’s Budget?
By Tom Lowe4 February 2021
Sunak spending review 2 112520
This week’s letter from the CLC to Rishi Sunak is a plea to recognise the industry’s potential to drive economic recovery
The construction industry has set out its case for a wide range of measures to boost companies facing “extremely challenging times” and help drive the economy ahead of the chancellor’s Budget in four weeks’ time.
In an open letter to Rishi Sunak this week, the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) argued for more state intervention and funding to help deliver government priorities, including achieving net zero targets, building safety remediation works, its ‘levelling up’ agenda, stimulating economic activity and protecting jobs.
The letter acknowledged government guidance had enabled construction sites to remain open during much of the pandemic, and that it had provided “ongoing assistance to our businesses and workers”.
General - construction employment - order books mentioned as growing.

I know Raleigh and your research, along with all input both positive and negative, is very much appreciated as it provides an opportunity to digest and consider whether to increase/reduce holdings accordingly
I post what comes along, mostly. You are correct in my view. I do not think it has, or will have an impact - and construction industry leaders will do their best to get around difficulties and work with the government to take advantage of the support for the sector.
But the price continues to dumbfound, despite the last trading update and very positive outlook. That is why I have 'come around' to there being a determined seller, for whatever reason. In the nature of things that will end sometime - and we can then make up the progress.
Raleigh, doesn't seem to have impacted Kier whose shares are up 12% at the moment following this trading update "Kier Group plc ("Kier" or "the Group"), a leading construction and infrastructure services group, today issues a trading update for the six months ended 31 December 2020 ("the period" or "first half").
Trading
The Group performed well in the first half and expects to deliver half-year results slightly above the Board's expectations. There was an improvement in site productivity through the period despite COVID-19 restrictions.
The Group anticipates that a reduction in adjusting items in the period will generate a statutory result materially better than the corresponding period last year.
Kier continues to win new business in its markets on terms and at rates which reflect the bidding discipline and risk management introduced under the Group's Performance Excellence programme. As at 31 December 2020, Kier had been awarded places on long-term frameworks worth up to £11bn, across a number of sectors including, health, education and justice. In addition, several existing frameworks were extended by 12 months.
In the first few weeks of 2021 the Group has also been awarded an 8-year maintenance contract worth c. £200m with Transport for London.
One in a long line of positive construction updates from different companies so augers very wel for the next trading update from Sig
I know Raleigh, only playing. I have little faith in our government at the moment. However I'm sure even they can see the necessity to keep construction going if not only for fiscal importance but also symbolic. It will be good when this selling is done, or at the very least declared.
This seems to be the background to it.

It is not a promise, but indicates a determination, lacking in other sectors, to keep construction open, except in a last resort.
And our present leaders are well known for absolutely never going back on any promises.
My kids enjoyed their one day at school.
Still at least they are making the right sounds at the moment.
