The availability (or not) of a vaccine has certainly become a distraction (it's correctly named so not a misnomer). It is best to assume that there will be no effective vaccine and contemplate what will then happen. We know that people generally would rather take risks than remain locked indoors and will live their lives according to their risk tolerance. Governments will eventually have to accept that elimination of the virus has not been successful because they were unable to keep their populations sufficiently united and disciplined and they failed to target controls at appropriate groups: those at greatest risk and those most likely to come into contact with them. People will adapt their lives and live with the consequences. There'll possibly be a good market for domestic ventilators. The energy market will balance and OP will return to $50+ although travel, hospitality and office working will undergo long term changes.
The vaccine is a misnomer to be honest. A friend of mine works in this field and they doubt it will be ready before Q3 2021 at the earliest due to regulation around such things. Even then, you have to mass produce it and its a big IF it works completely as virus's mutate. The biggest stumbling block will getting people to take it.
If you concerned about your investment, ask yourself, is this company financially viable or will it go bust? If the former stay put, if the latter get out.
I am of the former
Fusion98
Yes, char,
I suspect you are right. And have been from the start. I was ridiculed the other day when investors saw two days of SP rising.
I pointed out that any two points on the earth joined up form a straight a line. But that is it - just a straight line.
It means nothing. It does not indicate a rally now swallow doesnt make a summer…
Whatever this company finishes looking like, it wont look anything life it did in 2017/18
Emma
What makes me paranoid is why directors are not buying.
Surely the vaccine is the key to a turnaround. And that should be by q2 next year ?
Char: 'Well , new lows. No buffer now.'
Correct Char - When a key support fails it is not a wise time to add impulsively.
I did buy today - but definitely not RDS.
Tomorrow's statement will either steady the ship or confirm that the rocks are getting a bit closer.
A dividend cut isn’t beyond the bounds of Covid vaccine doesn’t arrive in Q1 with lockdowns in Europe and cases spiralling in US OP falling with Brent sub $40 adding to pain so could see 850 as early as today but agree unless world ending in which case it doesn’t matter buying at these levels if you can afford to is indicated maybe on further dips
I'm not worried bought a small amount at 897 yesterday. 223 shares I think. Us election will be the turning point and shares will rally especially if Biden wins. I'm down around 1k in my portfolio but it's only a loss If i sell. In a years time we will wonder why we didn't buy more shares at these prices. However rds is releasing results tommorow. I think they will be within expectations. Slight dividend cut. But think long term dont think 2020. 2020 is the year to buy. 2022 will be the year to sell.
Well , new lows. No buffer now. All the macro issues that pokerchips stated 4 months back are still to the fore. Ok trump v Biden should be done soon, but that apart it's a very bleak picture. Many many people will top up, then be on here saying how they wished they'd waited. If this fall's sharply tomorrow I fear it's game over for any full recovery. As I've said many times , this has all the hallmarks of Vodafone . People keep topping up only for it to keep falling. What's that saying about never try to catch a falling knife. Vodafone back near £1. No doubt the dell Boyer's will be harping on about this time next year. Once a share falls to a certain level & dividend is cut it's very very rare for it to recover to previous levels. EG Tesco, by, Sainsbury's & yes you've guessed it Vodafone. As I have always said 1 by 1 you'll come around to my way of thinking. This will just meander along going nowhere. If it goes up 40p & 35p & 50p in 3 days people will start crowing on here, only for it to reverse back down in a few days. That's the reality of where this share is right now.
